Me a green thumb? Not so much.

As much as I would like to have flourishing gardens surround my house… Sadly, this is not the case. You would think since my mother worked in a green house and in flower arrangement that some of that might have rubbed off on me. I loved helping her plant new flowers in our garden at home and would walk by where she worked on the way home from school just to smell that familiar smell of fresh soil mixed with humidity and the scent of prospering plant life.

My first attempt at saving a plant actually was a success. We were living in Norway and had gone on a trip with some friends to Germany. While we were there one of our friends was closing a bar/nightclub he owned and was getting rid of everything in it. I saw this sad little plant on the bar, wilted and drowning in a sea of cigarette butts. I claimed the plant that we lovingly called “Planty”  we smuggled Planty back to Norway where he thrived to be come a most green and happy plant. Sadly when we left Oslo he had to leave Planty behind.

So fast forward to the day we moved into our current house and imagine my excitement to see a flower box in front of our house and ample gardening in the back. I couldn’t wait to get my hands in the dirt and make my own masterpiece.

Well things didn’t quite goes as planned. It all started around Mothers Day a holiday that I had been sharing with my Mother in Law for several years now. She to has a green thumb and wanted to give me a gift by cleaning out the flower bed in my back yard and planting some flowers, herbs, and tomatoes. Sweet right? Well after one whole day of weeding, planting and watering I finally had my own little paradise.

Then it happened…

Within weeks my hearty poppie plants were shriveled, Desperate I search the internet for advice on how to care for them. Did I over water them? Had I underwatered them? To make matters worse everywhere I turned was the word HEARTY yes apparently these poppies are hard to kill. Well I did it in under a month. I have yet to plant anything in their place. Weeds I think have taken up shop there. As for my other plants they are doing OKAY not great but just okay.

Maybe I should take up learning how to knit…AGAIN.
